I made this drawing in Dec.1959, eighteen years after the bombing of British occupied Singapore and its subsequent occupation by Japan. I remember all those years back thinking what a remarkable people these were, how industrious, kind. thoughtful and accepting of strangers like me. While pondering our own ravages of war, how many of us realize the struggles of others and their determination to regain what was stolen from them. Singapore seems to have done a remarkable job, without braggadocio.
