1958 was the year I visited Israel and made my trek up to Tsfat (Safed) and out to the Negev. Traveling was rougher in those days, but I was a lot younger and so eager. I recall the charm of this ancient city that had the looks of a desert while reflecting a background of mountains. There were not many visitors in those days, no deluxe touring buses and no pushing to get to the next point of interest.
