ART BIO

Shirl Solomon was born in Philadelphia, PA, and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, a prestigious institute that was not particularly encouraging of her slowly-developing talent. She continued her studies at the Instituto Allende, Mexico, then spent the next few years traveling from country to country with her art equipment. Like Gauguin, she lived with the natives in Tahiti, then she was off to the Canary Islands, Spain, Italy, Greece and Israel, dividing her time between painting and studying the language to better understand the people she wanted to paint.

After exhibiting her work, chairing art shows, teaching and continuing her own studies to capture on paper and canvas the essence of what people feel, she became a courtroom artist for the media. Her rendition of Howard Hughes for NBC as he appeared when last seen alive was published in syndicated newspapers throughout the world. Among her published works 'Knowing Your Child Through His Handwriting and Drawings' represents many years of studying children's drawings and handwritings so that parents and teachers can better understand young people.

There is no subject matter alien to Ms. Solomon, who works in pen and ink, water color, pastel and oils. Her religious works reflect her Jewish background, but mostlly she focuses on people, striving to capture their romance and humor.
