St. Stephens Catholic Church is in the Garden District, located on Napoleon near Magazine Street. The church was established to serve a large German community in the area. The first mass was celebrated in 1887. The architecture is in the German Gothic style with a six-sided spire and clock tower, that can be seen for miles. The specially designed stained-glass windows were damaged during Hurricane Katrina but are now restored. It is the second largest church in New Orleans
