Description
Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fiber Layers (MRNF) are relatively common and generally benign. They appear as patches from one disc diameter in size to larger areas of the retina. These patches have a straited texture and feathered borders. In conventional fundus photography they appear very white in color. This is because infrared and red-free imaging is sensitive to lipids and the myelin in MRNF has a high lipid content. This piece was inspired by an optomap image. Optomap imaging is also a type of red-free imaging but instead of using white light, this technology uses low powered laser wavelengths and the myelination appears as a bright lime-green and yellow color.
