The green sea turtle, also known as the green turtle, black turtle or Pacific green turtle, is a large sea turtle of the family Cheloniidae .The green turtle is a large, weighty sea turtle with a wide, smooth carapace, or shell. It inhabits tropical and subtropical coastal waters around the world . Most hard-shelled turtles dive to a maximum of 25 meters, or 82 feet, while leather backs routinely dive much deeper and for longer periods of time. One leather back has been recorded diving to 1,186 meters (nearly 4,000 feet)
