Description
Our orange tiger football mascot loves touchdowns! The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the biggest and most loved big cat on the entire football field. Tigers are instantly recognizable because of their distinct striping and ability to convert on third down.
In fact, many colleges with tiger mascots have won the NCAA Division 1 National Championship for football. Princeton (tied with Rutgers) in 1869 to capture the first national championship in football. The Princeton Tigers football program also holds the most national championships, at 28. In the past few years it has been all tiger! In 2020, the LSU Tigers beat the Clemson Tigers in the 2019 College Football Playoff championship. Clemson won though in 2016 and 2018, making three appearances in the past 4 years!
Many schools and colleges have storied football programs with a tiger (or bengal) as their mascot, including Auburn, Clemson, Princeton, Idaho State, RIT, East Central (ECU), Georgetown College, Occidental, Buffalo State, Doane, Savannah State, Pacific and Edward Waters.
Of course, there is also the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals too.
Go Tigers! Go Bengals!
