I have wanted this for my pro life bulletin board at my Catholic Church and I wasn’t disappointed. It is beautiful and it has so much meaning put in a picture. A picture speaks better then words and this picture says it all. Thanks

This is an image of a destroying angel (Amanita bisporigera) mushroom the while mushroom and Tricholomataceae mushroom. The destroying angel mushroom is highly toxic and will cause death if ingested. This example was found in North Carolina. I do not go out looking for these types of species but when they present themselves you must be on guard. They are as toxic to pets as it is to humans. Isnt it interesting its the "pretty white mushroom" that is toxic and in many cases it is the ugly and nasty looking ones that are edible.

Hi Chris! I think it is great that you actually know so much about the mushrooms.. I do remember once (we used to live in the middle of the Mark Twain Nat. Forest) A mushroom came us by the bunched on year and my Mom said it was a Staghorn mushroom and it was edible.. We gather and ate bunches of it and it was delicious!

There are many myths and legends about Amanitas. Although I don't know specifically about this one, amanitas have been used for hundreds, possibly for thousands of years, by shamanist cultures as entryways to other worlds. Their use in traditional spiritualism and healing has been demeaned by religious, medical and legal authorities in search of power over the cultures and individuals who use them, not necessarily because they are dangerous to the users, but to the authority figures. There are many thousands of experienced living people who hunt them and consume large quantities specifically for their hallucinogenic qualities. Most of the worst consequences are when our white man's medicine attempts to treat their users' symptoms. I'm not suggesting eating them without extensive study, just don't believe the hype. I've watched squirrels eat many of our local Amanita Pantherina mushrooms, also considered deadly, without apparent ill effects. In early Christian church art, Amanita Muscaria are shown as the "forbidden fruit" which made us self-aware and humanized us. They adorn virtually every childrens' books' illustrations. According to John Allegro's extensive decyphering of the dead sea scrolls, as found in his book "The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross", Jesus was actually named after A. Muscaria. l, f

Thank you Jim. Jim you are correct there are over 600 species of Amanitas some are edible some considered dangerous and others deadly. A.muscaria and other psychedelics are considered dangerous because if someone consumed them in large quantities they could become ill, the truth about psychedelics is unknown by me. I do know that many individuals consume psychedelics without any apparent long lasting effects. Also agree that one should never eat a wild mushroom unless they have studied and become an authority on or have an authority on wild mushrooms identify what they are about to consume.

one if I have identified it right is a Lactarius family mushroom and the white one a Destroying angel although young still potent enough to kill a human, at\lthough the brown one might be edible I would not even consider it with the other right next to it. I am not sure if mushrooms can hybrid and i am not about to risk that chance. thank you for the comments Debbie
