Description
CRISPR-Cas6 gene editing complex, molecular structure. CRISPR-Cas protein complexes (the example here is Cas6, yellow) are used in genome engineering to cut DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). The system uses a guide RNA (ribonucleic acid) sequence (red) to cut DNA (blue) at a complementary cleavage site. The Cas 6 complex is found in Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. This is a surveillance complex, able to target foreign DNA. Also shown here are the proteins associated with this complex: Csy1 (orange) Csy 2 (green), Csy3 (darker orange) and Csy4 (violet).
