Description

The Cape Barren Goose breeds on offshore islands along the coasts of Victoria,Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia, and when old enough disperses to mainland pastures and scrub. This one was photographed on Phillip Island, Australia, where they are very common and may be seen strolling nonchalantly along roadsides and across the grassy areas. They do not take fright easily and I feel it is a wonder that I have never seen one that has been hit by a car - even though the island is a very popular holiday and day trip destination and has quite a high permanent human population!

F/L. What a pretty bird - the colors are similar to our Mourning Doves except the goose has a bright yellow bill:>). I'm glad you haven't seen carnage on the highway:>)
