Description
This is an image of an original 1969 Chevy Camaro COPO 427. The Camaro COPO (Central Office Purchase Order) is the system Yenko, Baldwin-Motion, and Berger used to get their base high performance cars. The COPO system was designed for fleet specific color schemes and upgrades to multiple cars, however it was only through the COPO system that you could order the ZL1 package. The ZL1 motor package was an aluminum: 427 block, heads, special forged aluminum pistons, rods, and intake and water pump. This created a big block motor that weighed about as much as a fully dressed 350 small block. The ZL1 was officially rated at 425hp but in reality a fully dressed ZL1 put out 550hp on the dyno. The speed shops would remove the cast iron headers when the cars arrived and replace them with tubular exhaust headers. Once complete the car would put out about 600hp and then any additional work the shops did. One very fast car.
