The artist is my son and is very talented. In high school he was accepted by Chicago Art Institute but couldn’t afford the tuition. He graduated from Fredonia State University with a Fine Art degree.
this is an image of a Great Spangled Fritillary (Speyeria cybele). this image was captured in West Virginia. This butterfly prefers forest edges and moist meadows. This makes sense since I had located this butterfly on semi-swampland bordered by a forest and a wet meadow or hay field.
The butterfly stayed close to the swamp water pond which was kind of interesting considering the amount of birds and other natural enemies that roamed this area.
As far as butterflies go this variety does not fly as quick as many others, such as the swallowtail, in the same area. Their natural range is from Canada to North Carolina and in the west to California.
