To anser your question yes, Ford did make cars before the famous Model T. This is a brass era Ford Model R. It was not until the Model T that the saying was coined "you can have your car in any color you wanted as long as it was black". Cars from the Brass era are typically known as horseless carriages as opposed to cars.
